The Influence of Body Mass and Physical Activity on Postural Stability in Children

The purpose of the study was to investigate how children's body type and their levels of physical activity affect their balance and what balance control mechanism these children use when standing up. Thirty children volunteered to participate in the study. Their Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated and used as an explanatory variable. Biomechanical measurements of the motion of their bodies during normal quiet standing, standing with their heads tilted back and standing on thick foam were analysed.
